We are in temporary suspension mode. The plan is to reopen for the weekend of April 30-May 1, and potentially the weekend of May 7-8 as well, weather permitting. A lot can happen in 5 days and the forecast for the upcoming week doesn’t bode well for maintaining the snowpack on all of this weekend’s 30+ trails. But things do change and right now, the plan is to keep Super Bravo and Heaven’s Gate in reserve.
But let’s look back at the past week, where we’ve seen it all…. winter like temperatures, thunderstorms, ice, a busy bluebird warm day on Good Friday, followed by 2” of new snow on Saturday, wrapping it up with Easter Sunday temps in the 50s and lots of smiles to be had, with coverage still really good on numerous trails. It’s a far cry from where we were a year ago.
Here’s a couple of pics from today:
Heading up Super Bravo at 9AM on Easter Sunday. Some of those who attended the Easter Service at Allyn’s Lodge skied down, while others rode the chair.
Getting what could be my last cruise of the season down Jester from the summit. The coverage was great and the snow was soft.
So now we wait and see…. even if Heaven’s Gate has seen its last chair riders of the season and only Bravo or Valley House spins, I plan to get out and make my final late-season turns. I have never ridden in May, and the latest I’ve ridden was April 30 at Mt Ellen a few years ago. This has already been a record-setting season for me and hopefully we can keep it going at least one more weekend.
