3-27-2011 – Top of Super Bravo
Saturday April 2 will be my 100th day on the snow for the winter of 2010/2011. Now granted, some of those days I have only had a single run (from the top of my lift back down to the base), but other days I can get several runs in, and on my days off, I usually average 20 runs in a day.
We currently have all of Lincoln Peak open. Where were we last year? According to the snow report clip from last year posted on Thursday 3/31… it was 70 degrees and trails were losing their coverage at an alarming rate. We closed the Gate House side on April 4, and Heaven’s Gate kept spinning until April 8.
Not so this year. Our base depths are still quite substantial and were touched up today by a small amount of snow – nothing more than an inch or two out of what was supposed to be a 6-12” snowfall. Our snowfall total for the season is 294”… that’s more than 100” over last year’s total snowfall. In addition, our temperatures in recent weeks have remained quite winter-like. While we did see some very nice temps during St Patrick’s Day, they did not last, and 20s became the norm, along with single digits at night.

At this point in the season, many of us are looking forward to warm-weather activities, myself included. That is not to say I’m done with snowboarding for the season… I’m just ready for some comfortable temps and soft snow to ride in. I like temps where I can wear a sweatshirt and be comfortable, retire my well-worn gloves and neck warmer, and enjoy great spring conditions.

Until that day comes, I’ll continue to enjoy whatever conditions we are faced with. Our closing date is up in the air at this point, dependent on Mother Nature and our current snow conditions, however it has been extended to April 24, with **possible** weekend operation past that.
So that begs the question:
Can we make it to May?
